De-Sign and Delay…

roadworks

A pet peeve this one…

Roadworks are inevitable but all too often their management is poor. You know the scenario, the temporary traffic lights and or traffic cones are deployed, it’s a busy route and the queues build up.

About 200m before the roadworks you come to the first warning sign. A few miles back there was a junction where you could have easily chosen an alternative route, but was there a sign there to advise that delays were likely on the road ahead?

Once upon a time the answer to that question would probably have been “yes”, but it seems that modern Britain has dispensed with such niceties, and no-one (else) seems to care. We just sit meekly in line, furiously texting news of our delayed arrival, or whatever else comes to mind. Some newer cars have clever technology, but the vast majority will sit in the queue of slow moving traffic spewing carbon monoxide into the atmosphere while their drivers’ patience is tested!

And all because no-one had foresight, no-one suggested the crew deploying the signs, cones and lights might pop up the road either side to the next junction and put up some useful warnings.

Why ???
